Master of Islamic Economics Students from UIN Sunan Kalijaga participated in an Internship Program in Shanghai, China: Unveiling the Dynamics of Indonesia-China Trade
The Master of Islamic Economics (MES) students have a valuable opportunity to intern at the Indonesia Trade Promotion Center (ITPC) in Shanghai. This experience is not only a historic milestone in the academic journey of Muh Afdhal Mubarak AS and Zahra Irma Rahmawati, MES students participating in the exchange program in China, but also a broad window that opens up to a deeper understanding of the complexity of international trade. In particular, this experience delves deeper into the economic relationship between Indonesia and China.
The internship program, held throughout January, not only familiarized the students with significant institutions under the Ministry of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia, but also provided profound insights into various aspects of trade between the two countries. From an introduction to the role and function of ITPC Shanghai to the provision of materials on China’s import-export regulations, students had the opportunity to broaden their understanding of various aspects of trade between the two countries.
During the program, students engaged in various activities designed to train them in market analysis and formulating effective trading strategies. From studying market analysis methodologies to processing export and import data for specific products, such as bird’s nest products, students were encouraged to understand the dynamics of the Chinese market and identify opportunities and challenges. Through discussions and materials on China’s import-export regulations, the students gained a deeper understanding of the legal framework and procedures applicable to international trade.
Through this experience, MES students also had the opportunity to be directly involved in market analysis, interact directly with Indonesian exporters, process export and import data, and prepare and present export products to stakeholders. Through this experience, MES students not only acquired relevant knowledge and skills in their field of study but also developed the ability to adapt to diverse business environments and express innovative ideas in the context of international trade.
This internship experience will make a valuable contribution to preparing MES students as competent and highly competitive professionals to face challenges in the global market. Opportunities such as this will continue to be an integral part of the curriculum, allowing MES students to continually develop their potential and make a positive contribution to Indonesia’s economic development through international trade.
