History of Establishment
The Master of Islamic Economics program, FEBI, UIN Sunan Kalijaga was officially established based on the Decree of the Director General of Islamic Education of the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia Number: 3543 of 2016 concerning the Permit for the Implementation of Study Programs in the Postgraduate Master’s Program at the State Islamic University Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. Based on this Decree, UIN Sunan Kalijaga was granted permission to conduct the Master of Islamic Economics study program. Furthermore, the rector of UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta issued Decree Number 145.3 of 2016 concerning the Implementation of Study Programs in the Master’s Program of the Faculty of Adab and Cultural Sciences, and the Faculty of Islamic Economics and Business of the State Islamic University Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta dated July 29, 2016. The program enrolled 52 students in its first year, a number that increased to 104 in 2017. As of 2020, the total number of students enrolled in the Master of Islamic Economics program, including active students and graduates, reached 378.

- Fostering innovative education, teaching, and research in Islamic economics by integrating Islamic knowledge and modern economic theories comprehensively.
- Conducting research and knowledge reintegration to enhance the quality of scholarship and human resources in Islamic economics, and contributing to problem-solving through an inter/multidisciplinary approach.
- Engaging in community service and providing meaningful contributions to the improvement of the quality of life concerning religion, nationality, and statehood.
- Implementing the three pillars of higher education to realize a civil society.
Objectives
Based on its vision and mission, the objectives of the Islamic economics Master’s Program are as follows:
- Educating and producing masters with competence in Islamic economics as well as professional skills for the development of knowledge, technology, and Islamic financial institutions.
- Educating and producing masters capable of developing science and technology through innovative and tested research in Islamic economics.
- Educating and producing masters who embody Islamic values, trustworthiness, and professionalism in morals.
- Educating and producing masters capable of taking an interdisciplinary approach to organizational issues in general with a scientific approach.
