Master of Sharia Economics Study Program, UIN Sunan Kalijaga Hosts Benchmarking Activity on OBE-Based Curriculum and Course Learning Outcomes (CLO) by the Indonesian Association of Master of Sharia Economics Study Programs (APMES)

In an effort to enhance academic quality, the Master of Sharia Economics (MES) Study Program, UIN Sunan Kalijaga hosted a benchmarking activity focused on curriculum and course learning outcomes (CLO) based on Outcome-Based Education (OBE). This event was facilitated by the Indonesian Association of Masters in Sharia Economics (APMES).
The activity took place at the Faculty of Islamic Economics and Business (FEBI) UIN Sunan Kalijaga on June 26, 2024, as part of the main agenda of the 2024 APMES National Coordination Meeting held from June 24 to 26, 2024.
Curriculum benchmarking at the master's level is crucial for improving the academic substance of universities. The current developments in economics and social dynamics have impacted the alignment of higher education institutions in enhancing their role in advancing knowledge and contributing to community needs. This includes adapting curricula to changes driven by digital technology and global economic trends with national implications.
The event was attended by heads and secretaries of Master of Sharia Economics Study Program from various institutions, including UIN Samarinda, UIN Riau, UIN Yogyakarta, UIN Malang, UIN Makassar, IAIN Palangkaraya, IAIN Bone, IAIN Pare-pare, IAIN Palopo, IAIN Kendari, UIN Banten, and UNISBA.
Participants from these institutions shared various challenges and progress in curriculum development. Some presented their experiences in developing curriculum frameworks at an international level, which could serve as references for other universities.
Dr. Muhammad Ghafur Wibowo, Head of the Master of Sharia Economics Study Program, UIN Sunan Kalijaga, emphasized that this activity represents an implementation of inter-university collaboration facilitated by the association. In terms of curriculum development, the association conducts curriculum reviews by inviting representatives from industry practitioners and other stakeholders in Sharia economics.
The invited guests were asked to provide insights on the current curriculum and share up-to-date information needed by alumni-employing stakeholders. Such activities are regularly held to strengthen the role of universities in fulfilling the Tri Dharma (threefold) of higher education: education, research, and community service.
