Internationalization of Learning: Master of Sharia Economics Study Program (MES) Invites Lecturer from Kabul University to Teach Islamic Economic and Business Jurisprudence
Yogyakarta – The Master of Sharia Economics (MES) Study Program, Faculty of Islamic Economics and Business, UIN Sunan Kalijaga, has launched an exciting initiative to go international and enhance students' English language skills. This initiative involves inviting Dr. Mohammad Salim M.A., a lecturer from Kabul University, Afghanistan.
The first session commenced on April 25, 2024, and was officially opened by Head of the MES Study Program, Dr. Muhammad Ghafur Wibowo, S.E., M.Sc. In his opening remarks, the study program head emphasized the significance of this initiative as part of the program's internationalization efforts. This aligns with the program’s achievement of an "Excellent" accreditation from LAMEMBA in 2023 and its ongoing pursuit of international accreditation in the future. Additionally, this activity aims to improve students' English language skills and provide them with new learning experiences.
By participating in this program, students are expected to become accustomed to online learning activities with lecturers from other countries and to using English. This experience will serve as a valuable asset for those aspiring to pursue careers in academia, whether for further studies or even for future roles as lecturers or other professional endeavors.
The program is held every Thursday until the end of the semester. Dr. Mohammad Salim, M.A., will teach the course on Islamic Economic and Business Jurisprudence over seven sessions, following the first half of the semester, taught by Dr. Afdawaiza, M.Ag. The topics covered include online transactions, usury and bank interest, multi level marketing in Islam, digital and cryptocurrency, stock and money markets, insurance, and franchising.
Each session is attended by dozens of second-semester MES students of UIN Sunan Kalijaga, conducted online. The learning process involves students' presentations on various topics, followed by feedback from the lecturer and group discussions.
