Improving Student Competitiveness and Skills in the Context of Internationalization: Student Exchange Program at Wuxi Institute of Technology, China

Higher education institutions are striving to enhance students' competitiveness and capabilities on the global stage. The collaboration between MES and the Wuxi Institute of Technology in China through the Student Exchange Program is a crucial step in this internationalization process. Wuxi, known as "Little Shanghai," is a rapidly growing economic hub that plays a significant role in regional and national economic development. The participation of MES students Muh Afdhal Mubarak AS and Zahra Irma Rahmawati in this program presents them with a valuable opportunity to gain profound insights into the business environment operating amidst dynamic economic growth.

During one semester, these MES students will be involved in diverse aspects of international higher education. The program places a significant emphasis on exploring Financial Management with an innovative approach incorporating the use of financial technology. Considering the swift evolution of technology in the financial sector, a comprehensive grasp of financial technology is an immensely valuable skill. This program offers a robust initial groundwork for MES students to excel on the global stage.

The Student Exchange Program goes beyond academics, aiming to broaden perspectives and deepen understanding of Chinese culture and language. MES students were offered the opportunity to enroll in additional classes such as Chinese Listening and Speaking, as well as Chinese Culture, providing them with a valuable opportunity to immerse themselves in the richness of Chinese culture and learn a language that holds great relevance in today's global context. This understanding is beneficial not only academically but also in comprehending global dynamics.

The journey commenced on September 14 when the students assembled at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. They traveled with a layover at Guangzhou Airport and eventually arrived at Shanghai Pudong International Airport on September 15, 2023. Accompanying them were two vice deans from FEBI UIN Sunan Kalijaga, namely Vice Dean I, Prof. Dr. Misnen Ardiansyah, M.Si, and Vice Dean III, Dr. Ahmad Salehuddin, M.A.

The presence of these vice deans served not only to ensure a smooth journey but also to establish a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Wuxi Institute of Technology, China. This MoU marks a significant milestone in strengthening the relationship between the two institutions and opening up broader cooperation opportunities, including student exchanges, joint research, and various other academic initiatives.

Throughout a full semester at Wuxi Institute of Technology, students will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in a dynamic academic environment. They will study alongside peers from diverse cultural backgrounds, offering them opportunities to comprehend cultural diversity and international business dynamics.

This invaluable experience will significantly influence their worldview and interactions in their future workplace.
The Student Exchange Program represents a concrete stride in enhancing the quality of education at FEBI UIN Sunan Kalijaga. It also demonstrates a firm commitment to internationalizing education and empowering students to compete effectively at the global level.
