SOSPEM 2025: Becoming Productive and Ethical Master’s Students
The Learning Socialization Program (SOSPEM) for newly admitted students of the Master’s Program in Islamic Economics (MES) and the Master’s Program in Islamic Accounting (MAKSI) at the Faculty of Islamic Economics and Business (FEBI), UIN Sunan Kalijaga, continued on its second day with a series of meaningful, inspiring, and academically enriching sessions.
Session One – Academic Integrity Literacy and Scholarly Writing Practices
The first session was delivered by Wahyu Wibowo, M.E. This session emphasized the importance of academic honesty as a fundamental pillar of graduate education. He explained various forms of academic misconduct that must be avoided, including plagiarism, data manipulation, and unethical citation practices. Participants were also equipped with practical strategies for scholarly writing, covering the development of article outlines, literature-based research methods, and academic writing techniques aligned with international scholarly standards.
Session Two – Goal Setting and Resilience for Master’s Students
The second session was presented by Akmal Ihsan, Ph.D., M.E. He highlighted the importance of setting clear academic and personal goals from the beginning of the graduate study journey. Students were guided to design academic and personal roadmaps to maintain focus in achieving their objectives. In addition, the session underscored the significance of resilience in addressing academic challenges, including time management, research pressure, and sustaining motivation throughout the study period.
Introduction to the Graduate Student Association (HMPM)
The program concluded with an introduction to the Graduate Student Association (HMPM). New students were introduced to the organizational structure and various departments within HMPM, including Human Resource Development (HRD), Social Entrepreneurship (SE), Research and Development (RnD), and Public Relations (PR). This introduction aimed to encourage students to collaborate, contribute, and develop their potential not only academically, but also through organizational involvement and community service.
With the completion of the second day’s sessions, SOSPEM 2025 further enriched new students’ understanding of academic integrity, strategic academic planning, and opportunities for personal development. It is expected that all participants will grow into master’s students who are principled, competitive, and well-prepared to contribute to the advancement of knowledge and society.
