Transforming Scholarly Publishing: Master’s Program in Islamic Economics Holds JMES Acceleration Workshop
Yogyakarta — The Master’s Program in Islamic Economics (MES), Faculty of Islamic Economics and Business (FEBI), UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, organized the Journal of Islamic Economics Master’s (JMES) Acceleration Workshop on Thursday, September 4, 2025. The workshop was held at the Smart Room, 3rd Floor of FEBI, from 09:30 AM to 04:00 PM (WIB), and featured speakers with extensive experience in academic publishing.
The workshop was officially opened by the Dean of FEBI UIN Sunan Kalijaga, Misnen Ardiyansyah, S.E., M.Si., Ak., CA., ACPA. In his opening remarks, he emphasized the importance of improving the quality of scholarly publications as a strategic effort by FEBI to strengthen academic reputation and contribute to the development of Islamic economics at both national and international levels.
The first keynote speaker, Muhammad Luthfi Hakim, M.H.I., Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Islamic Law, presented strategies for enhancing journal quality to achieve inclusion in reputable indexing databases. The second speaker, Ahmad Syfa’i, M.Pd., a lecturer at Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta, shared practical insights on publication governance, manuscript management, and the importance of maintaining academic integrity in journal operations.
The workshop was initiated by the Head of the Master’s Program in Islamic Economics, Muhammad Ghafur Wibowo, S.E., M.Sc., together with the Secretary of the Program, Siti Nur Azizah, S.E.I., M.E.I. According to Dr. Ghafur, accelerating the development of JMES represents a crucial step in building a stronger culture of scholarly publication within the program, with the target of achieving at least SINTA 2 accreditation. He expressed hope that the workshop would strengthen the capacity of the JMES editorial team in editing, managing, and publishing high-quality academic articles.
In addition to the main presentations, the workshop featured interactive discussions and technical mentoring sessions. Participants demonstrated strong enthusiasm throughout the event, particularly during discussions addressing the challenges of publishing in international academic journals.
Through this workshop, JMES is expected to continue its development as a credible scholarly journal that meets international standards and makes a significant contribution to the body of literature in Islamic economics. The Master’s Program in Islamic Economics at FEBI UIN Sunan Kalijaga remains committed to organizing similar initiatives as part of a sustained agenda for transforming scholarly publication practices within the university. An upcoming academic agenda within the MES FEBI UIN Sunan Kalijaga is the Islamic Economic Consortium.
