HMPM–ES FEBI UIN Sunan Kalijaga Successfully Organizes the Islamic Economic Consortium (IEC) 2025
As part of the conference date marking the culmination of the Call for Papers for the Islamic Economic Consortium (IEC) 2025, the Master’s Program in Islamic Economics (MES), in collaboration with the Master’s Student Association of Islamic Economics (HMPM-ES) of UIN Sunan Kalijaga, held a major academic event on Friday, November 7, 2025. The event also featured an International Public Lecture and took place at the Theatrical Room of the UIN Sunan Kalijaga Library. It was attended by lecturers, students, and participants selected as winners of the IEC 2025 Call for Papers.
The conference adopted the theme “Advancing Maqashid, Governance, and the Green Economy: Transforming Institutions from Local Communities to Global Markets,” highlighting the strategic role of Islamic economics in addressing contemporary governance and sustainability challenges.
Chairperson Emphasizes Academic Collaboration and Rigorous Paper Selection
The event opened with remarks from the Conference Chair, May Husnul Khotimah, who explained that the conference date represented the peak of a month-long series of activities under the IEC 2025 Call for Papers. The submission process began on October 6, 2025, and successfully attracted 52 abstracts from various regions across Indonesia, spanning from eastern to western provinces.
Participants came from Makassar, Sumatra, Lampung, Gorontalo, Jakarta, Yogyakarta, Jember (East Java), and other regions, reflecting strong academic interest in issues related to Islamic economics, maqashid al-shariah, governance, and the green economy. All submitted abstracts underwent a rigorous selection process conducted by the editorial team of the MES Journal. From this process, 25 best abstracts were selected to proceed to the review and presentation stages. The final selection took place on October 31, 2025, through article presentation sessions, which formed the basis for determining the best participants.
In her remarks, May expressed appreciation to all participants for their dedication and academic commitment. She emphasized that the quality of the submitted papers and presentations reflected the strong enthusiasm of the younger generation in building a sustainable Islamic economics research ecosystem. She also announced the recipients of the Best Paper and Best Presentation awards as formal recognition from the organizing committee.
The award recipients were as follows:
- First Place, Best Paper: Yudhistira Ardana – Universitas Islam Indonesia
- Second Place, Best Paper: Riskiana Elina – UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta
- Third Place, Best Paper: Mohammad Samsi Ridwan – UIN KHAS Jember
- Best Presentation: Wike Juniati – Universitas Airlangga
She expressed hope that these awards would motivate participants to continue developing their academic capacity and scholarly contributions. In closing, she reaffirmed that IEC serves not only as an academic forum but also as a collaborative space to strengthen scholarly networks, foster innovation, and generate ideas that contribute to the advancement of Islamic economics.
HMPM Chair Encourages Strengthening Research Culture
The next address was delivered by Miftah Surur, Chairperson of HMPM-ES, who emphasized the importance of cultivating academic spaces that are not only competitive but also collaborative. According to him, IEC serves as a strategic platform for students to express scholarly ideas while contributing meaningfully to the development of Islamic economics in the era of digital transformation and globalization.
Presentations by National Speakers
The agenda continued with presentations by national speakers Wahyu Wibowo, S.Pd., M.Pd., M.E., AWP-STM, and Nesha Rizky Ashari, S.E., M.E., AWP. Their sessions addressed issues of governance, sustainability, and the role of Islamic economics in responding to global challenges and strengthening the green industry. Participant enthusiasm was reflected in active discussions and a high volume of questions.
Closing and Future Expectations
The IEC 2025 conference date concluded with a group photo session involving speakers, lecturers, organizers, and participants, symbolizing collaboration and the successful execution of the event. Through this academic agenda, it is expected that participants gained new insights, scholarly inspiration, and renewed motivation to further develop Islamic economics grounded in maqashid al-shariah and oriented toward public benefit (maslahah).
