Yogyakarta—Tuesday, August 27, 2024, the Master’s Program in Islamic Economics (MES), Faculty of Islamic Economics and Business (FEBI), UIN Sunan Kalijaga, officially launched MES Corner. The launching ceremony was attended by the Dean of the Faculty, the Head and Secretary of the Study Program, as well as representatives of MES students.
At the MES Corner launching event, the Dean of the Faculty of Islamic Economics and Business, UIN Sunan Kalijaga, Dr. H. Afdawaiza, M.Ag., emphasized that the establishment of MES Corner represents a strategic step in supporting the development of Islamic economics scholarship within the academic environment. According to him, MES Corner is designed not only as a center for literacy resources but also as a platform to encourage research and innovation among students and lecturers.
The Head of the Master’s Program in Islamic Economics, Dr. Muhammad Ghafur Wibowo, S.E., added that the presence of MES Corner is expected to facilitate the teaching and learning process, particularly by providing relevant and up-to-date references for students. Over the past four years, dozens of books have been produced by MES students, lecturers, as well as collaborative works between students and faculty members. MES Corner also provides QR codes as an alternative for students who wish to access the materials digitally. With digital collections that can be accessed at any time, students are given greater flexibility to engage in independent and in-depth learning.
The Secretary of the Master’s Program in Islamic Economics, Dr. Joko Setyono, S.E., M.Si., concluded the event by expressing his hope that MES Corner would become one of the facilities that enhances the competitiveness of UIN Sunan Kalijaga graduates, particularly in the field of Islamic economics. The unique design of MES Corner, featuring a tree-shaped bookshelf with branches and twigs, reflects the philosophy of a tree as a source of life, just as books (references) serve as a source of human knowledge. With adequate literary support, students are expected to be better prepared to face the challenges of the professional world and to contribute positively to society.
The launch of MES Corner marks an important milestone in efforts to improve the quality of education at UIN Sunan Kalijaga and to strengthen the university’s position as a leading center for Islamic economics studies.
