The Master’s Program in Islamic Economics (MES) at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Hosts OBE-Based Curriculum and Course Syllabus Benchmarking Organized by the Indonesian Association of Master’s Programs in Islamic Economics (APMES)
In an effort to enhance academic quality, the Master’s Program in Islamic Economics (MES) at UIN Sunan Kalijaga served as the host for a curriculum and Course Syllabus (RPS) benchmarking activity based on Outcome-Based Education (OBE), facilitated by the Indonesian Association of Master’s Programs in Islamic Economics (APMES).
The activity was held at the FEBI campus of UIN Sunan Kalijaga on June 26, 2024, as part of the main agenda of the 2024 APMES National Coordination Meeting, which took place from June 24 to 26, 2024. Curriculum benchmarking at the master’s level is considered essential in strengthening the academic substance and quality of higher education institutions.
Recent developments in the economy and evolving social dynamics have had a significant impact on universities, requiring them to continuously enhance their role in advancing knowledge and providing community-oriented contributions. In particular, curriculum adaptation is crucial in responding to changes driven by digital technology and the global economic mainstream, both of which have national-level implications.
The event was attended by heads and secretaries of master’s programs in Islamic economics from various institutions, including UIN Samarinda, UIN Riau, UIN Yogyakarta, UIN Malang, UIN Makassar, IAIN Palangkaraya, IAIN Bone, IAIN Parepare, IAIN Palopo, IAIN Kendari, UIN Banten, and UNISBA.
Participants from these institutions shared various challenges and progress in curriculum development. Several institutions also presented their experiences in developing curriculum references at the international level, which could be adapted and further developed by other universities.
The Head of the Master’s Program in Islamic Economics at UIN Sunan Kalijaga, Dr. Muhammad Ghafur Wibowo, stated that this activity represents the implementation of inter-university collaboration facilitated by the association. In the context of curriculum development, the Association of Master’s Programs in Islamic Economics conducts curriculum reviews by inviting practitioners and other stakeholders in the field of Islamic economics.
Invited participants were asked to provide perspectives on the existing curriculum and to share up-to-date information required by stakeholders who employ program alumni. Activities of this kind are conducted regularly to strengthen the role of universities in fulfilling the tridharma of higher education—education, research, and community service.
