Initiating the Student Mobility Program to Advance the Internationalization of MES Students
As part of ongoing efforts to enhance educational quality and global competitiveness, the Faculty of Islamic Economics and Business at UIN Sunan Kalijaga organized a Student Mobility Program to Malaysia and Singapore, held from 23 to 27 October 2023. This program was designed as an initial step in the internationalization process for students of the Master’s Program in Islamic Economics (MES). The activities included participation in an international conference to strengthen students’ research competencies, as well as international company visits aimed at broadening students’ understanding of the global professional environment.
The registration process began in early July and was preceded by an administrative selection stage, during which applicants were required to submit a written academic paper in the form of an article and demonstrate proficiency in English. This stage was followed by an interview selection to assess the overall capabilities of prospective mobility participants.
Out of the 13 students selected for the mobility program, three were from the Master’s Program in Islamic Economics: Rizki Alfiandani (third semester), Amila Zamzabila Putri (third semester), and Maulana Ali Akbar (second semester). Prior to departure, all selected participants received preparatory briefings covering various aspects of the program, including paper presentation preparation and a detailed explanation of the activity schedule throughout the mobility period.
One week before departure, all mobility participants were assigned as committee members for the International Short Course (ISC) organized by the Faculty of Islamic Economics and Business at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. The program involved 52 participants from various countries, including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Brunei Darussalam, Gambia, India, Madagascar, Malaysia, Pakistan, Tanzania, the United States of America, the United Kingdom, and Indonesia. This activity served as a learning platform to train students in direct communication with international participants and to enhance their English language proficiency in preparation for engagement in international academic settings.
The departure of the student mobility participants took place on 23 October 2023, with the assembly point at Tugu Railway Station at 04:00 WIB. The event was attended by the Dean of FEBI, Dr. Afdawaiza, and the Vice Dean III, Dr. Ahmad Salehuddin. In their remarks, they expressed the hope that the Student Mobility Program would strengthen students’ international competencies, enabling them to compete globally, while also reaffirming the faculty’s commitment to continuously supporting and developing academic excellence. The event concluded with a collective prayer led by Dr. Ahmad Salehuddin, followed by a group photo session.
