Enhancing Competitiveness: Master’s Students in Islamic Economics Earn National Professional Certification (BNSP)
Yogyakarta, May 15, 2025 — Students of the Master’s Program in Islamic Economics, Faculty of Islamic Economics and Business (FEBI), UIN Sunan Kalijaga, participated in a Competency Certification Examination organized by a Professional Certification Body (LSP) officially licensed by the Badan Nasional Sertifikasi Profesi (BNSP). The certification assessment was conducted over two days, on January 2–3, 2025, at the UIN Sunan Kalijaga campus.
This competency certification formed part of a strategic initiative to enhance graduate competitiveness and readiness for the professional workforce through nationally recognized skills certification. The program aimed to strengthen the integration of academic knowledge, practical training, and entrepreneurial development.
The certification assessment covered multiple competency schemes across four categories: Community Facilitation and Assistance (FPM), Training, Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), and Credit. Participants were drawn from various study programs, with a quota of 20 participants for each category. Prior to the assessment, participants received preparatory sessions consisting of technical briefings and case-study simulations. The assessment was conducted by professional assessors certified by BNSP with extensive field experience.
Among all participants, three students from the Master’s Program in Islamic Economics demonstrated outstanding performance and were declared competent, thereby earning the BNSP Certificate as Training Methodology Trainers. The awardees were Irwan W, Nesha Rizky Ashari, and Miftahus Surur.
The Head of the Master’s Program in Islamic Economics, Muhammad Ghafur Wibowo, S.E., M.Sc., expressed appreciation for the achievement and emphasized the importance of synergy between higher education institutions and industry in preparing highly competitive graduates. He noted that BNSP certification represents formal national recognition of students’ professional competencies as trainers and reflects the program’s commitment to ensuring that graduates possess not only academic knowledge but also nationally accredited professional credentials to support their careers and societal contributions.
Beyond technical training, the certification program also served as a platform for participants from diverse sectors to build strong and collaborative professional networks. One of the awardees, Nesha Rizky Ashari, shared her enthusiasm, stating that the experience significantly enhanced participants’ preparedness for the professional world through possession of nationally recognized competency certification.
Through this initiative, it is expected that graduates of the Master’s Program in Islamic Economics at UIN Sunan Kalijaga will emerge as professionals who not only master theoretical foundations, but also possess certified skills and formal legal recognition, enabling them to contribute effectively to the development of Islamic economics at both national and global levels.
