Abdurahman, a Native of Sigi, Promotes the Values of Tolerance through His Book “Footsteps in Tana Toraja”

Abdurahman, a student of the Master’s Program in Islamic Economics (MES) at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta and a native of Sigi Regency, has once again demonstrated his contribution to the field of literacy through the publication of his latest book entitled “Footsteps in Tana Toraja.”

This inspirational work is rooted in Abdurahman’s personal experiences during his participation in the Nusantara Community Service Program on Religious Moderation (KKN Nusantara Moderasi Beragama) 2023 in Tana Toraja, South Sulawesi, where he served as a delegate from UIN Datokarama Palu. In the book, he narrates his spiritual and social journey while living among the Toraja community, whose daily life is deeply imbued with cultural richness, tolerance, and humanitarian values.

Abdurahman explained that Footsteps in Tana Toraja was written as a reflection on his lived experience within Toraja society. Through the narrative, he conveys lessons on diversity, mutual cooperation, and tolerance, which he frames within the broader perspective of religious moderation.

The book marks Abdurahman’s third published work, following his earlier titles Putih Abu-Abu Penuh Pengalaman and Bukan Sekadar Pemuda. Across his writings, he has consistently explored themes of literacy, youth engagement, and national identity, inspiring readers from diverse backgrounds.

According to Abdurahman, writing is not merely an act of arranging words, but a means of conveying meaningful messages about life. He emphasized that literacy serves as a medium to communicate values of humanity and diversity in a thoughtful and impactful manner.

Through the publication of Footsteps in Tana Toraja, Abdurahman hopes to encourage younger generations to appreciate and preserve cultural heritage, while strengthening the spirit of living harmoniously within diversity. By presenting stories of Toraja society, he aspires to motivate readers to uphold mutual respect and interreligious harmony.
