The Global Insight: MES UIN Sunan Kalijaga and APMES Collaborate to Host Prof. Jürgen Rüland from Germany

Yogyakarta, July 25, 2025 — The Master’s Program in Islamic Economics, Faculty of Islamic Economics and Business (FEBI), UIN Sunan Kalijaga, in collaboration with the Association of Master’s Programs in Islamic Economics (APMES), successfully held an international lecture titled “The Global Insight” on Friday, July 25, 2025.

The event featured Prof. Jürgen Rüland, Ph.D., a distinguished professor of political science from the University of Freiburg, Germany, who delivered a keynote address on: “Global Economic Governance between Deadlock and Informality: The Role of Victimhood Narratives, Legal Capacities, and Domestic Politics.” Held in a hybrid format, the lecture took place at the 2nd Floor Meeting Room of FEBI UIN Sunan Kalijaga and was also attended by participants via Zoom. Over 140 lecturers, students, and researchers from APMES member institutions participated in the session.

In his lecture, Prof. Rüland emphasized the importance of reforming International Political Economy and International Relations to be more inclusive, highlighting the need to amplify voices from developing countries through pluralistic universalism, enhanced legal capacity, and strategic diplomacy. Dr. Muhammad Ghafur Wibowo, S.E., M.Sc., Head of the Master’s Program in Islamic Economics, stated that the event reflects the program’s strong commitment to academic internationalization.

“This lecture helps expand global insight and brings students and lecturers into direct dialogue with leading international scholars. It also strengthens our academic network with institutions abroad,” he noted.

This event is part of the ongoing collaboration between MES UIN Sunan Kalijaga and APMES to foster globally connected, high-quality Islamic economics scholarship.
